A Poem I Wrote

Wandering Mind

Sturdy things, like the walnut tree in your backyard. Painful

things, rocks, thorns in your feet.

But water droplets too. The ones that race each other on

the windows of your car.

Your favorite restaurant, electric

lungs. Electricity for sight, and for

power. Seeing the glass half empty or

weightless. Constantly wanting the next best

girl. Questions I’ve been wanting to ask you, the ones

I never can. Feeling young and

terrified. Tales of bravery and of heroes. Birds that sing when the

green starts showing. Two horses standing alone in

a fenced-in field. Waiting for someone who lives

in the future.
